I've been playing for a while now and I'm getting nowhere except to get my ass kicked on a regular basis. I see all of these other players expand and gain so many units in just two or three turns. It almost seems as though they are cheating. I always ask how they are doing it and no one will tell me anything. I like the game but it has become so frustrating and is becoming no fun to play. Can someone please explain to me how they are doing this, how I can do this. I have upgrades and all the perks, but have no idea how they can possibly be doing this without cheating or knowing some secret that no one will tell me. Please be cool and help me out.

I see that you are using Master of Stealth a lot. It is an expensive strategy that has an advantage in late game but not in first turn expansion depending on the funds.
If I were you I would check the AW knowledge collection http://atwar-game.com/forum/topic.php?topic_id=9217 to see if you are using your strat in the right way.
And I would try to play some more usual strategy like perfect defense or imperialist (check the guide before using them).
PS: you should also check for expansions, it would give you an idea of how you can improve your expansion.

Okay, I was just in an ancient world game. My country had a capital with 8 and two cities with 4 and 5 units. One country over the guy had a country with a capital, also with 8 and one city with 4 or 5 units. After the first turn, I lost to a neutral city on one battle, lost a battle with him for a capital holding 6, I sent 8, and I won one city, which after reinforcements left me with 14 units. He had 14 units that survived the battle we had over the capital, 13 in the country just behind that one, and 8 in two other cities on either side. How is that even possible? How can he, with less units, win four battles and come out with over 30 units that were impossible to beat? I asked him how he did it and got no response.

And that's the bitch of it all. I ask how someone is doing something. I'm clearly defeated and no good at the game, and no one will respond. Or, if they do respond its usually something smartassed or something along the lines of, I'm just good. Is it really that competitive that you can't help out someone who is struggling to learn?

Ancient has special units with different attacks unique to each country.its possible that he used his super strong attacking special units to get alot of countries with few units.scenarios with custom units are more complicated, you have to give more info about map, country, funds to help you otherwise your request is too general.

He was probably using Iron Fist, which makes all units op but slower

You just say "units" but you don't specify the kind of unit. In ancient there's a larger variety of units than in the standard world map.

That's why IF is better when playing against some neighbour country (e.g. Macedonia vs Sparta)
