I don't know if we're talking about the same Night's King, but the Night's King I know was a Lord Commander of the Night's Watch who did some fucked up shit, took a woman that appeared to be an Other as a wife, binded the Night's Watch to his will, declared himself king and went to war with the wildlings and the North, eventually a King Beyond the Wall and a King of Winter (House Stark's previous title before Aegon's conquest) combined to defeat him

The nights king lead the white walkers against the first men and children of the forest during the age of hero's aswell. So you can see I an just as confused as anyone xD
