What do you guys think of these 2 topics? Where will humanity be in 50-100 years? Will we have a colony on Mars or projects for other colonies on other planets? Or are we contained on this planet til' the 'Apocalypse' comes? I personally think that if no apocalyptic event will occur in the next 50-100 years, we will start colonising other planets, maybe even solar systems. We will discover faster ways to travel the immense void of space and the technology regarding space will improve over all. This has all the chances to happen if no major armed conflicts will happen, in this case, funds will be diverted from the research and space development to the war sectors. I also see that at the forefront of this is NASA, ROSCOSMOS, CNSA, the European Space Agencies and I personally am impressed by the progress made by Elon Musk's Space X. Also, will this become a good business or the future is only in Space Agencies controlled by the gvt? So, share your opinions with us and keep this spam free. Good day

People used to say traversing the Atlantic or even going to space was impossible. We'll find a way. We'll have to find a way, since at this rate Earth's resources will run out.

The mars one space program is already being developed they want to have a colony on Mars by 2035, I have an application submitted to be a colonist. I have passed the first part of the selection process already. ^^ As for your second point government funded, company developed entrepreneurship. These ventures will only work if there is an incentive to make money.

I already see bright colored spaceships commanded by transgenders and manned by non-binaries.

I personally would love to see this happen. But the difficulties in space travel make this difficult as hell. Right now developing the necessary tech to overcome the difficulties in Orbital/Lunar travel let alone inter-planetary/interstellar travel is difficult. Not to mention making it cheap enough. I read an article about 2 months ago on how even if we had the necessary tech, a trip to Alpha Centauri (manned) would cost about $100 trillion... A trip to space would require even genetic engineering at the base level (maybe even embryonic manipulation - essentially raising our future colonists and astronauts from childhood), better energy tech, shielding tech (not sci-fi type shielding - meteorite shielding) etc. Year 2040 ---> It's the median year of when a technological singularity is expected. When artificial intelligence becomes self-improving and self-aware, making smarter and smarter copies of itself, designing, creating and discovering better and better tech for mankind in a matter of decades/years in a massive snowball-Von Neumann type effect. Of course this is if it doesn't go SkyNet on us....

It could go two other ways - on one side they could found real modern advanced society without the old world awes that we are carrying with us, on second way the distance from the authorities on earth could create lot of crimes and brutal cultures and habits. i guess it depends on the people who will go there and who is going to wage that.

Well, I see they raised only 1mil for this, I think it will take a shitload of time to raise the other...>bilions. And what are you supposed to do there on Mars if you will pass all the selection phases (btw, how many of these ones are?). What's your role there?

6 stages, the last two being actual training, as for the mission, it is a social experiment to see if we have the technology to survive there currently. If not we die. If we do, we have a colony on Mars in which to send more and more resources to untill colony becomes city and city becomes society. Aswell my actual job would be given after I pass the physical and mental testing phases (passed the phyical already) i would then recieve training in a specified field in order to perform adequately on the mission. If your wondering why they just don't use already trained professionals, well to be honest there is a good chance it's a suicide mission. But humanity is pushed by the daring. If we succeed, our species has entered a new age. That's worth my life. Lastly, where did you get a million? The people who started the mission are billionaires.

Chances are humans will kill themselves (via global warming - and basically create another Venus) before amounting to anything valuable on a cosmic scale. Mars is a great step and all, but I personally don't have high hopes for the colony, it's just another moon landing sorta thing, with no benefit to humanity as a whole except a handful of people get a nice experience and few countries get bragging rights. It's not like Mars can self sustain human life at this point anyways. As for a more deeper thought, I'm sure a more advanced species would be able to (or already are) exploring deep space, maybe humans much like dinosaurs are not meant to roam forever and will be replaced by a more capable species on Earth. I don't see humans surviving on Earth for long until we find a way to harness more energy then what is available on Earth and invent light speed travel (otherwise we would just die of old age before reaching anywhere significant).

I know, I wasn't trying to be ignorant of the goals. That still doesn't change the fact that it's pointless for the general populous of Earth. The economic resources wasted could be used to further more important technology, and prop up self sustaining economies in places such as Africa. As for terraforming, I don't see it happening until humans learn to harness gasses from a nebula, scientifically Hydrogen is very abundant, but not easy for humans to just fly to a star and get it. Using what's on Earth is counter productive - making a habitable planet by ruining another habitable planet. I want to see us create (somehow) and control black holes, even if they are smaller than beads, now that would be beneficial for numerous reasons.
