12.03.2017 - 12:40 Imperial Academy: Admissions Statistics Strategic Cartography & Applied Cartography for 2017 Entry Hello there! Here are the 2017 Admissions statistics for all the applicants who applied, for the prospective applicants, for the applicants who wish to re-apply and those who may wish to apply for their first time in 2018 Entry (the next admissions cycle). Strategic Cartography includes both Applied Cartography, with Strategic rigour, focusing on teaching students of the academy how to produce balanced, strategically-challenging and enjoyable maps (often team scenarios). This course is the most competitive, with the code V100. This had around 20 applicants per place. Applied Cartography is simply teaching practical skills of how to make a map, such as bordering, mechanisms, troops, incomes, basics, and how to innovate, along with certain academy techniques, tips and tricks. This course is much less competitive, with code V050. This course only had 4 applicants per place. Shortlisting Stage --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To shortlist applicants we use a measure called Scaled Applicant Factor, SAF, calculated as follows. We use SAF to measure an applicant's strategy and experience, though it is not always accurate and thus other factors are always involved in the applicant review and shortlisting process. That being said, we always guarantee an interview and thus shortlist, applicants who have equal to or are above 110.5 SAF. From this, here is a table showing what 110.5 SAF translates to, depending on rank. For 2017 Admissions, we also shortlisted a range of applicants whose SAF was below the 110.5, as they had interesting performance records. This year, the Average Applicant SAF was 89.4, with the Average Successful Applicant (those who secured a place) SAF of 124.6 Interview Stage --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The interview panel ranges from 4 professors to 1 professor and 1 layman, although there was this range and variability, screenshots were taken and these were used to rank and score the applicants in the 10 following categories: Compatibility with the Adog-Purist School of Thought, Compatability with the Strategic Cartography Course, Enthusiasm Shown in the Interview, Is the Applicant a Felicitian Scholar?, Applicant Activity, Intellectual Ability, Motiviation for Study, Loyalty, Prestige of Candidate, Experience with Cartography. The top two candidates received 74.5%, as each section is marked out of 10, the total is 100 points. College Admissions Statistics --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Royal College of Adog One applicant was accepted to study Strategic Cartography. R12 is the average successful applicant rank, with over 1500+ Elo, for V100. Felicitian College Two Applicants were accepted to study Applied Cartography, with an average rank of 6, for V050. One Applicant was accepted to study Socio-Cartography Philosophy, the average rank of 9, for S100. One Applicant was accepted to study Imperial Politics, the average rank of 10, for P100. Concatenate-Countenance College One Applicant was accepted to study Strategic Cartography, with an average rank of 10, for V100. Strategic Cartography (V100) Statistics --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The average rank of applicants is 7.3, with an average Elo of 1117.3. The average rank of interviewed applicants is 8.6, with an average Elo of 1205.3 The average rank of successful applicants is 11, with an average Elo of 1412.6 Yours Sincerely, Professor Panda Admisssions Tutor of Strategic Cartography

We teach Cartography and other social sciences, not competitive gameplay. However, even if you did beat them, that would not prove against the theory that higher elo is better, because you have 1591 elo yourself. But really, you should duel one of them, just for fun. Also we are aware that Elo does not mean everything, but we use it as a general guide to identify those who are more strategic and experienced in competitive gameplay as it would aid them in the Strategic Cartography Course.

They are both explained. V100 is simply the course code for Strategic Cartography, used as a short hand. SAF was already explained to be Scaled Applicant Factor, it's just a statistical measure we invented. In fact I even showed how we calculated SAF.

You contradict yoursef... Why does cartography teaching must involve competitive gameplay (elo, as you claim)? And if you know it doesn't mean anything, why do you use it in your calculation to evaluate "the most strategic and experienced in competitive gameplay"? There currently are noobs with higher elo than any experienced player due to low rank farming... and there are high rank noobs which can only farm low ranks Your whole selection process makes no sense since low ranks can be as willing as high ranks to become map makers. I'm quite disappointed

Just because they are willing doesn't make them good strategic cartographers. SAF is only used for strategic cartography (explained above, but essentially the Art of making maps such as Ultimate WW2 and other balanced team maps). For Applied Cartography, the type taught elsewhere in AtWar which is simply just the practical skills, we do not use SAF at all and interview all applicants who apply for Applied Cartography. We even gave a lifetime premium scholarship to a r5 who had applied, this year.
Furthermore, I'd like to add, we do contextualise data. I did mention this in the actual applications thread (or atleast Adog did). We review the entire record of an applicant, including games played, the diversity of games played, whether a candidate has had too much consecutive RP in the past 100-200 games etc. Applicants who farmed Elo are often rejected immediately, along with those who have played too much RP or World 50k. We also do look at and interview candidates who aren't 110.5 SAF. 110.5 SAF and above is not a requirement, it just guarantees an interview. We also shortlist a bunch of other candidates with less than 110.5 (often more candidates like that are interviewed than those with 110.5 SAF or more). In addition, even candidates with a higher SAF, after the interview stage, are no longer considered if their interview showed them to be incompatible with the course. We will accept a r7 candidate who has 1000 elo or less, than a r12 candidate with 1400+ elo, if they were more compatible in the interview stage. Infact, the interview is the more important stage. I can see why you have had such a misconception, as I did not mention this part of the selection process, and I apologise for doing so. The reason for this is because it's difficult to represent data contextualisation in statistics, or how to represent interview scores as data. This thread is purely just the measurable statistics, but a high or low SAF score does not guarantee, nor should it discourage any applicant.

You do not have RP on record for your past 100-200ish games, or in the past 60 days. Therefore you would have been shortlisted for an interview. If you're asking in the case of if someone was playing rp regularly and still had a high performance in competitive games, they would similarly be given an interview.
